So what’s so special about the best DeWalt power washer? Well, simply put… it’s not a DeWalt.

Stanley Black & Decker, the trademark owners of DeWalt, license the DeWalt trademark to another famous pressure washer brand. They license it to Simpson Cleaning and take a cut of the pressure washer revenue.

Let’s break this down further, Simpson Cleaning makes their own pressure washer, and simply put a DeWalt sticker on it. This is what’s called rebadging, and it’s incredibly common across all industries.

This is one of DeWalt’s direct-drive cold water gas-powered units. This is reasonably priced and is in the right PSI range for most people’s needs.

This features a CAT triplex plunger pump, and this is a top-quality pressure washer pump designed for long life even with extensive use.

It uses a Honda GX200 commercial engine, and it does without saying that Honda produces a quality engine, and this is their commercial variant for power equipment.

It features 3200 PSI at a water flow rate of 2.8 gallons per minute. This gives you a cleaning power of 8960. That’s a punchy number.

You get a 25 foot-long high-pressure hose, so you can reach long distances.

How does a trademark/rebadging deal take place?

Firstly, DeWalt will get their analysts to research the best pressure washer manufacturers out there, to identify which brands are worthy of a DeWalt sticker. Dewalt stands for tough, powerful, and job site quality.

So only a brand and manufacturer who can maintain this type of brand quality will be able to qualify for the rights to the DeWalt sticker and what that sticker stands for.

Then the two companies strike a deal, and the licensee gets to work.

In this case, the licensee is Simpson Cleaning, a manufacturer of pressure washers. They struck a deal with DeWalt to increase their profits by licensing the DeWalt name.

Here’s some more detail on how it works

Simpson Cleaning makes their pressure washers in their Decatur, Arkansas facility with the DeWalt badging. While their at it, they also make their own Simpson branded power washers and the industrial Briggs & Stratton washers all on the same assembly line.

These pressure washers are then sold as DeWalt pressure washers in Home Depot etc. and both companies share in the profits as per the deal they struck.

Similar deals like this have been struck with DeWalt. For example, Louisville Ladder, inc did the same thing; they now have an exclusive line of bestselling DeWalt ladders. HeatStar, which is a portable heater company, also benefits from the DeWalt name by selling their portable heaters at a higher cost due to the DeWalt name.

Countless other companies in numerous industries do precisely the same thing, it’s not something that’s kept secret, it’s very commonplace, but that said, it’s not something they yell and scream about.

So what does this mean to you?

Anything with a DeWalt sticker on carries a premium price. It’s a premium brand. As such, it comes with premium prices. Yeah, Simpson cleaning sells more units in partnership with DeWalt, but the real benefit is that they can charge more for their units.

For example, the DeWalt 3200 and the Simpson Cleaning 3200 are the same, but there are a few differences.

  • Both have 3,200 PSI and 2.8 GPM.
  • Both are powered by Honda GX200 engines
  • Both have a triplex plunger pump ( DeWalt has a CAT pump, and Simpson has AAA which is their own pump brand)
  • DeWalt has an extra bar bolted on the frame above the engine
  • The DeWalt unit costs more in terms of MSRP

So you can get a similar Simpson pressure washer for a lower price, that said if DeWalt is your thing, that’s not a problem.

This video produces by Home Depot shows the DeWalt 3,000 PSI unit, it’s the same unit mentioned above, just a smaller engine and pump.

The three things to consider

Noise Level – The 3200 pressure washer is powered by a Honda GX200 commercial engine. It’s roughly as loud as a blender or garbage disposal. It’s quiet enough to talk to your busy while you are power washing, but you will need to raise your voice.

Price Point – The pressure washer from DeWalt is more expensive, considering you can get an almost exact model (with a triplex plunger pump just under a different brand) just at a lower price from Simpson.

Maintenance – You will need to follow the maintenance instructions, which are outlined in the User Manual, to keep the warranty valid. The great thing about having a Honda engine is that there are loads of Honda Service centers around the U.S., which is great if you prefer someone else to maintain your pressure washer for you.
