With this laser level, you won’t need to use a swinging plumb bob ever again. This is considered to be one of the best plumb laser levels for professionals. You can transfer a point from the floor to the ceiling with a press of a button with this model.

This laser level makes your life easy when it comes to leveling, this 3-point green beam laser level designed by Pacific Laser Systems uses a green diode capable of projecting three laser beams that are 300% brighter when compared to red laser beams.

The use of a green diode makes this a perfect choice for anyone working both indoors and outdoors for electrical work.

The PLS 3 makes determining referenced points and lines up and down for each light fixture a breeze. The amount of time you will save using this tool compared to someone laying out 50 lights in a vaulted ceiling with plumb bob is almost immeasurable.

Before an electrician can install any fixtures such as light cans, fans, or commercial lighting, it is commonly laid out on the floor to ensure that everything lines up as per the design. This is usually done because ceilings are vaulted or very high.

You can measure out a grid pattern on the floor and then transfer those points onto the ceiling, ensuring the precise installation of the fixtures. So if you are after a laser level for ceiling lights or a laser level suited for any kind of ceiling work, then this may well be the perfect tool for you.

The portability of the PLS allows an electrical contractor to place the PLS laser tool onto virtually any surface so you can accurately transfer points.

Why would you use a laser level in the first place?

Laser levels are one of the most essential pieces of equipment for construction workers. These days an indispensable tool for electricians, alongside their trusty measuring tape.

There are many tasks that you can use a laser level for as an electrician, ceiling work, for example, such as installing lights and other ceiling accessories.

Lasers levels ensure that alignment mistakes are minimized during installation, say, for example, that you need to install a line of down-lights, keeping the same distance from the wall. Then keeping an equal distance from each other isn’t easy. A laser level ensures success, and they also minimize any chances of errors during wiring and other associated electrical works.

I’ve had 100% success installing that perfectly straight line of ceiling lights when using a laser leveling tool. I’ve been successful with a tape measure and a pencil as well, but it took a lot of time, using my laser level the job was done quickly and confidently.

What should you look for when buying a laser level for electricians?

In this buying guide, I’ll hopefully show you what you need to look for in a laser level. There are loads of fantastic laser levels produced by the top brands. There’s so many that you will be hard-pressed to work out the differences between their features.

As an electrician, a laser level that’s perfect for a plumber or a surveyor may not be the right one for you, so here are some things that you should look for in a laser level that’s right for electricians.

Accuracy

Above everything else, accuracy is the number one feature and the main purpose of any laser level. After all, you are looking to achieve precise measurements.

So you need to ensure that the laser level you chose has a high accuracy rating, and this is measured by its accuracy number; the smaller the number, the more precise the laser is.

So a laser level that’s 1/8″ accurate at 30 ft will be much more accurate than one that’s 1/4 at 30 ft.

Is it a self-leveling laser level?

The vast majority of the best laser levels these days are self-leveling; it’s a feature that I don’t think I would want to do without.

You just turn your laser level on and within a few seconds, and it’s ready to give you accurate lines. Whereas if your laser level isn’t self-leveling, you’re going to lose minutes adjusting it to ensure it’s level and in the position that you need.

Also, you need to keep checking that it’s still level, any knocks, or it the tool has been moved from its original position, then you won’t be working with the same level that you started with.

My advice, go with a self-leveling laser level whenever you can.

And can it transfer a point from the floor to the ceiling?

One of the most used properties of a laser level for electricians is the plumb points. The ability to transfer a location from the floor to the ceiling. It’s not uncommon for light fixtures and other ceiling accessories to be laid out on the floor first and their position to be translated to the ceiling. So having a laser level that’s capable of doing that is incredibly important.

While this feature is something that electricians will need, if you aren’t an electrician, having a laser level that can do it all is only a good thing, right?

Laser Class/Color

I’ve covered the majority of reasons for Red vs green laser levels in another article, but for indoor use, red laser levels are perfect.

A green laser level is more expensive, it will chew through batteries, but they are more accurate and easy to see in direct sunlight. I personally will go for the green version any time.

But there’s nothing wrong with picking up a red laser beam.
