The Features Of A Good Table Saw
Any table saw that you get should have a few different features that make it worth the money. Here are just a few of the most important things that you should pay attention to before making a purchase.
Size & Weight
One of the things to consider before buying a table saw is how big and heavy it is. The size and weight of the table saw in question will determine its portability.
A bigger and heavier saw will be less portable, but it will most likely also have more power.
Something to consider is getting a table saw that is fairly compact in size, but also features an extending table to counteract the small size of it.
Power & Capacity
If you are going to be using the saw all day long and are going to be cutting tough materials or even just hardwood, you are going to want a saw with a lot of power, at least 4,400 RPM.
On that same note, if you are going to be cutting thicker materials, you will want a saw with a high cutting capacity of at least 3 inches when the blade is set at a 90-degree angle.
The table saw you get should at the very least have a blade guard, ideally one that can be adjusted for convenience’s sake.
The table saw may also have an emergency braking feature, as well as a lever to turn the saw off in a fraction of a second in case anything goes wrong.
Fence & Miter
Any table saw that you get should also have good guidance and accuracy features. A fence is a very important thing to have on any table saw because it lets you guide the wood through the blade when making longer cuts.
Moreover, the fence should be easily adjusted, may be telescopic, and should hold firmly on the table. Next, a good table saw absolutely needs to have a miter, which is the item used to guide your wood when making straight cross cuts or angled crosscuts.
The miter should be able to go anywhere from 90 degrees to 45 degrees to account for angles cuts.
To keep it short and simple, anything that can be adjusted on the table saw, should be able to adjust with minimal effort. Simple to turn levers or dials are the most ideal form of adjustment that any table saw can have.
A good table saw will also have some on board storage space so you can safely store things like the blade guard, the fence, miter gauge, push stick, wrenches, and various other accessories that you need while using a table saw.
Something else to look out for when buying a table saw is that it has something like a dust collection port so you can hook up a vacuum or dust collection system to minimize mess.
Something else to consider is a table saw that features a laser guidance system for ultimate accuracy. Moreover, a table saw that comes with its own stand is always a bonus, especially if the stand folds for compactness and also has wheels for ease of portability.
If you are on the market for a brand new table saw, but don’t know what to get, you should probably take a look at the DEWALT DWE7490X Table Saw.
This is a great option to go with, it has a very high powered motor that is combined with a large cutting capacity, both things that any carpenter can appreciate.

It also has an excellent rack and pinion telescopic fence, plus a very useful miter gauge too.
To top things off, there is a hole which can accommodate a sawdust collection system, plus the folding stand are just added bonuses that make the DEWALT DWE7490X Table Saw a worthwhile investment no doubt.
This item is ideal for an extremely large variety of tasks and any woodworker, carpenter, or handyman would be more than pleased with it.

Features and benefits
The DWE7490X has some really neat features that are definitely worth mentioning, all of which will make your carpentry much easier, not to mention your final project a total success.
One of the things that makes the DEWALT DWE7490X such a reliable saw is the fact that it has a 120 Volt motor.
Those volts translate into 4,800 rounds per minute of cutting power. This may be a fairly small table saw, but the high powered motor gives it the ability to cut through hardwood with ease, not to mention metals, ceramic, and other tough materials too.
The power of this saw makes it ideal for both smaller and larger projects.
Large Cutting Capacity
Another feature of the DWE7490X that makes it an option to be reckoned with is that it has a very large cutting capacity.
When the blade is at a vertical 90 degrees this saw can cut wood as thick as 3 – 1/8 inches and when the saw blade is set at a 45-degree angle it can still cut pieces as thick as 2 – ¼ inch, making it a very versatile saw.
There is also the fact that this thing has a full 28 inch rip cut capacity. The large cutting capacity is definitely a feature that is necessary for carpenters and handymen doing big jobs.
Lots Of Space
The DEWALT DWE7490X Table Saw offers plenty of space for cutting extra wide pieces of wood.
While the whole table saw is not necessarily that large, it does have a telescoping fence that can extend very far to accommodate large workpieces, thus reducing the need for an extra jig or in feed/out feed table.
There is also the fact that the table itself is of a decent size, thus allowing you to work on bigger projects with ease, which is also thanks to the added support from the telescopic fence.
The Miter & Fence
Yet another great feature that the DEWALT DWE7490X has is a rack and pinion telescoping fence which we briefly mentioned before.
Not only can the fence extend outwards far to fit big pieces, but it can also be contracted inwards to support very narrow cuts, not to mention that it forms a fairly compact package which is ideal for transportation.
The fence on the DWE7490X can be easily adjusted with just a few turns of the lever for those times when you just don’t have much time to make adjustments.
Speaking of adjustments, the DEWALT DWE7490X Table Saw also has a great miter gauge which can be easily adjusted with the same type of lever or dial as the fence.
The miter lets you make accurate crosscuts and angled crosscuts with increased ease.
The miter can be set anywhere from 90 degrees for straight cuts all the way to 45 degrees, which is useful for things like making joints.
The DEWALT DWE7490X Table Saw has an awesome blade guard that protects your fingers and your face from harm, plus the guard can be easily adjusted without the use of tools for various cutting purposes, thus adding to the versatility of this table saw.
This table saw also features an easy to press stop button that lets you stop the blade from turning at a moment’s notice, potentially saving your fingers from harm.
A Dust Collection Port
The DEWALT DWE7490X also features a specialized 2-inch dust collection port which allows you to attach a sawdust collection system, something that no well-organized woodworker should go without.
This makes cleaning up your mess afterwards much easier, mainly because it helps to get rid of the mess before it ever occurs.
A Folding Stand
This thing also comes with a heavy duty folding scissor stand. While the whole saw may not be that light, the folding scissor stand is very useful because it eliminates the need for a workbench or work table, allowing you to set up the DEWALT DWE7490X Table Saw wherever you go.
When you are done with it, the stand can be folded into a neat little package for easy storage.
The Final thing that makes this table saw a good option to consider is the onboard storage space it contains, something that makes it ideal for storing various table saw accessories when they are not in use. This is a neat feature because it will keep everything where you need it to be and it stops workplace clutter too.
We are well aware that not everybody has the same tastes or same requirements when it comes to table saws.
So, in case you aren’t a big fan of the DEWALT DWE7490X Table Saw, here are a few other options that you can check out.
A good option to consider is the SKIL 3410 Table saw. This is of a medium weight and size, making it fairly portable.
This thing also has more than enough power and cutting capacity to get through some big, thick, and tough materials, which is thanks to the 5,000 RPM it produces.
Plus it even comes with a folding stand for your convenience. This table saw also has a self-aligning rip fence, has an EZ view measurement system, is easy to adjust, and very durable too.
Bosch 10-Inch Worksite Table Saw 4100-09 with Gravity-Rise Wheeled Stand; Portable Table Saw (Discontinued by Manufacturer) Review
- PORTABLE: Innovative, gravity-rise, collapsible table saw stand allows you to adjust height to meet your specific needs while the 8-inch treaded pneumatic wheels provide mobility from jobsite to jobsite

- PRECISION: Bosch 4100-09 worksite table saw provides high-precision cutting as well as efficient power with 3,650 no load RPM motor
Yet another good option to consider is the BOSCH GTS1031 and one of the reasons is due to the fantastic amount of onboard storage space that it has.
We also like this option because it delivers a full 5,000 RPM for cutting through some very tough objects, plus it has a 3 – 1/8 inch cutting capacity too.
This saw is of a medium weight, coming in at around 65 pounds, making it fairly portable, but also heavy enough to be very durable.
This thing is made out of very solid materials and has a solid steel base, has a compact design for portability, optimized capacity for a wide range of applications, and has a square lock rip fence too.
- First ever brass-geared Worm Drive table saw for maximum power and torque.
- 15 Amp solid construction Dual-Field motor for increased cutting speed and extended motor life
- 25 in. rip capacity and 3-1/2 in. depth of cut for ripping a wide variety of materials
The final alternative to the DEWALT that we want to mention quickly is this one.
The SKILSAW features an extremely powerful motor that can deliver a blade speed of up to 5,300 RPM, which is more than enough to get through even the toughest of materials.
This table saw weighs only 49 pounds, making it one of the lighter ones out there, this making it fairly portable.
This thing has a great cutting capacity, has on tool storage, a self-aligning fence, has an anti-kickback feature, and is a very durable tool without a doubt.
